2018 Reading List: Every Book We Read This Year

Catch a peek into Rachael’s 2018 reading list. Find out what she loved and what she hated – and see if you agree with her opinions!

With only a few weeks left in the year, I thought now would be a good time to reflect on my year of reading.

I knew blogging would eat up a chunk of my free time this year, so I set a conservative (for me) goal of reading 52 books in 2018.

Apparently my goal was extremely realistic, because I was spot on to hit it. That is, until this fall hit. Something magical occurred this fall; my reading was suddenly on fire. I read 10 books in October and then 19 books in November. It’s only halfway through December, and I’ve already read 7 books. Let’s just say that I blew my original goal out of the water.

What was on my 2018 reading list? Looking at my year in review, I am a fairly eclectic reader. Thus far, I’ve read 25 books each in Adult fiction and nonfiction, with 17 young adult fiction books and 7 children’s books. Plus, in preparation for writing about the most popular books of the year, I read 19 books published in 2018.

Since I never share star ratings on the blog (and rarely mention books I don’t like), here is a fun glimpse into my opinions on my 2018 reading list, with a 3-word description of each book just for fun.

Expect to see these books on future book lists. I found quite a few for my next edition of read this not that.

Next up, I’m gearing up for our 2019 Reading Challenge. Join us as we read a book a week throughout the year. If you need any ideas to finish any of the categories, don’t worry, we’ll be sharing plenty of book ideas each week to fit our fun challenge.

What a great list! I’ve always adored The Last Lecture, and The Great Alone was absolutely one of my favorite reads of the year!

Yes, The Great Alone was fantastic!

I love this list!! And your one sentence thoughts on it. So smart. I’m too long winded with my “quick” reviews. Great reading year! I’m looking to lower my reading goal next year to focus more on blogging, too. It’s looking like I’ll hit 100.

It was so hard to only use 3 words for each!

This is such a diverse list! I tend to stick to the same 3-4 genres of books, so I’m very impressed. We did read a few of the same ones though!

  • Reply Tasha December 18, 2018 at 4:07 pm

Looks like you had a great year. I’ve read a couple of the same books.

  • Reply CJ | A Well-Read Tart December 21, 2018 at 11:23 am

Egads! I am so impressed with your reading level in October and November!! It’s so great when you can just get on a roll like that. I always set conservative reading goals because I hate not making goals, haha, so even though I read about 65 books in 2017, I set my 2018 goal for 50 books … and I’m coming up about 3 short right now (in the middle of book #47 and should finish by the end of December). Since I set my goal way before I ever contemplated starting a blog, I’m still totes proud of myself for ALMOST making my goal while doing everything else a blog entails (you know how it goes), plus holding down a “day job.” It’s been an exhausting but wonderful year, and I can’t wait to read more books over the holiday break and share more reviews in 2019!! Happy Holidays!! xoxo

That’s great that you exceeded your reading goal for 2018! I loved Educated and The Hate U Give! My blogger-friend, Rachel, has a link-up for all the books we read in 2018. Feel free to add your link! http://neverenoughnovels.com/2018/12/21/all-the-books-i-read-in-2018/

  • Reply Rachel @ Never Enough Novels January 2, 2019 at 7:14 am

Thanks for joining my little linkup! I love seeing everything that other bloggers read throughout the year. Caravel is sitting on my nightstand right now waiting for me to crack open. I’m thinking about adding Red Rising to my TBR list too. Seems like lots of people love it!

    • Reply Rachael January 4, 2019 at 12:42 pm

Yes, you should try both of them. Neither are the best series ever written, but both are fun and entertaining. I need to read the second book for each this year.
