I just wanted to take a moment to discuss a component of interviews that people often overlook: the thank you card. And if you read to the end, I’ve even got a treat for our readers.

Great Cookbooks You’ll Use Again and Again

There are some not so great cookbooks you receive over time that spend most of their life on your bookshelf. They have some nice ideas, and you take it out every once in a while to try a new dish. However, once you complete the recipe, you wonder why you ever bothered taking it off the shelf to begin with.

My great cookbooks are rarely on my bookshelf. They are constantly wandering around my dining room table, kitchen counter, and on top of the microwave. I went looking for one to help me write this post and realized it wasn’t even in my house! My husband had lent it to a newlywed couple to help them with dinner ideas. I have found that great cookbooks can be sources of inspiration and should stay within reach.

Most people assume that the cover letter is just regurgitating your resume in a story format. If that’s what you’re doing, you’re missing a great opportunity to land your dream job!

Resume design sounds straightforward, but many people don’t take the time to consider how their information appears on paper. You can have amazing credentials, but if it’s laid out in a way that is hard to read or gives an unprofessional appearance, you will find yourself dismissed from consideration before you even had a chance to speak.

How to Survive a Red Eye Flight with Kids

In January of 2017, I swore off ever taking another red eye flight with kids. Little boy was three, and we had the most horrendous experience. He would not take a nap that afternoon. Of course he fell asleep on the 25-minute car ride to the airport. Then he wouldn’t fall asleep again until two in the morning. After sleeping two hours, I had to wake him up to get off the plane, then wake him up to pick up our bags, and then wake him up to get in the car. I’ve never seen such a total and complete meltdown as I did that morning. Every time I woke him up, he would give me the saddest little whimper and beg me to let him sleep. No way was I ever going to attempt another red eye flight with kids again.

How does that quote go again? “The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.”

Four Tips for Your First Time at the Gym

How many years has your New Year’s resolution been to get into shape? Personally, I’m at year three. Every year I’ve told myself I’m going to get back into shape like I was in high school. I’d make some lame attempt at running in the summer, and then I’d go back to my sedentary ways. My high metabolism has let me easily hide behind the curtain of being thin but not fit.

This year I decided this was the year. We could afford to add me to my husband’s gym membership. This is the year I am going to be more than thin. I am going to be fit and strong.
