The Mystery Blogger Award

This week, we were nominated for the Mystery Blogger Award! Honestly, our first reaction was: “Awesome! I have no idea what that even means.” Being new to blogging, we have a lot to learn about how the blogging community works. But we are having so much fun learning and are excited to continually learn more.

Okoto Enigma created the Mystery Blogger Award as way to help people discover new blogs that will inspire them. You can learn more about it here. Thank you, Okoto, for creating the Mystery Blogger Award. We are grateful to be a part of this tradition.

Our nomination for the Mystery Blogger Award came from one of the nicest people, Julie Anna of Sincerely Julie Anna. She writes a wonderful blog about personal development and productivity. We first became Twitter friends with Julie Anna. Then, we Rachael was having difficulties setting up our BlogLovin account, we decided to reach out to Julie Anna for help. She was kind enough to look over our website and give us some advice. You should definitely check out her blog.

Our Best Post

We have only been blogging for a few weeks, so we don’t have too many posts to choose from. Our best post thus far, or at least our most viewed post, is Don’t Buy The Hype: Read This Not That. Rachael is a voracious reader, and she shared 14 of the books she read last year – 7 that are worth your time and 7 that are not. Check out her list so you don’t waste your time reading overhyped books.

Sincerely JulieAnna

Questions from Julie Anna

Why did you start blogging?

Rachael: One day, I was sitting around a table talking to some friends. A question was asked, and suddenly all the other women turned to me assuming I would know what to say. That’s when it hit me, I have something to say. When did that happen? I used to be a confused young mother who had never changed a diaper before. Now I’m a confident mother of four who has advice to share. Over the next few months, the idea of starting a blog kept popping into my head.

Jaclyn: Rachael approached me and said, “I’ve got this idea to start a blog about all these things I know interest savvy millennial women like us: family, work, travel and reading.” I’m nodding my head, thinking, Yeah, I’d read that. You do that, Rachael. What she said next caught me off guard. All excited, Rachael then declares, “We can do it together. It can be a sister blog!” Naturally I had to ask some follow-up questions to see how serious she was, and her excitement was contagious.

What are your goals?

In general, our goals are just to be our best selves. We want to just enjoy the blogging experience and hopefully help out other savvy millennial women along the way. We hope to be good mothers, good wives, good daughters, good friends and good neighbors. Though we are far from perfect, we are just trying to be our best. Trying your best no matter the result is really all you can ever ask from someone.

For our blog, we really want to help millennial women lead better lives. Our mom gives us great advice, but the world has changed so much since she raised us. As sisters, we’ve been lucky to be so close in age that we have a built-in support system. We want to be the support system to other millennial women. We talk more about how we hope to achieve our goal of helping savvy millennial women in our About Us page.

If you could send a message to everyone in the world at once, what would it say?

Be kind. Be kind to those around you. You never know what someone is going through. Give them the benefit of the doubt, and choose kindness over judgement. But also, be kind to yourself. You don’t have to be perfect at everything. You can enjoy your friend’s ability to design amazing Halloween costumes, without feeling guilty that you can’t do the same. We tend to judge our worst attributes against our friends’ best attributes. Don’t fall into the comparison trap. Be the best you can be and be kind to yourself.

What’s one thing you’d like people to know about you?

We are both small-town Ohio girls. We come from a very small town surrounded by miles and miles of cornfields. Actually, we went to a K-12 school with about 50 people in each of our graduating classes. We love our small town roots, but have also enjoyed experiencing living in suburbs and larger cities.

If you could live anywhere, where would you go?

If we could live anywhere, we would be next-door neighbors! Can’t you picture it: free babysitting, cousins growing up together, living next door to your best friend? I know living next-door to your sister wouldn’t work for everyone, but we would love to live closer together.

Our Nominations

To continue this fun tradition, we would like to nominate the following blogs to answer our five questions.

1. Why did you start your blog and why do you choose the name you did?

2. What is your proudest accomplishment?

3. What did you want to grow up to be when you were a kid?

4. What would your dream vacation be?

5. What are your top 5 favorite books?

What are a few of your favorite blogs? Let us know in the comments and we will check them out.

I loved reading your answers and learning more about you both. I think it’s amazing that you’ve decided to take on blogging together as sisters. Your blog might be a few weeks old but by the looks of your site and posts, it looks like you’re blogging pros!
